I'm so sorry my email is a day late! On Sunday evening there was a huge thunderstorm here. It hasn't rained here for several months, so the people were excited about the rain. But there was also some pretty intense lightning! Our power went out several times. (reminds me of good old NH) But while we were getting ready for bed-the power had just come back on-there was a huge crack and bright light! It seemed as though the lightning had struck right in our backyard! The power had gone out again. :P We were totally freaking out! So being super smart we said "let's go check it out!" So we went out in our backyard and looked for the damage. We didn't find anything, but think it might have hit the telephone pole back there. But looking back on it now it probably wasn't a good idea going in our flat backyard during the thunderstorm. :) So when we went to the Stake Center to email yesterday, the power was on, but the internet was down, so we couldn't email. :( And that's why I'm emailing today!
I forgot to say that I am in a trio now! One of the Elders in our district had to go home for surgery back on the 14th and we've been in a trio with his companion Elder Wiginton since then. Elder Shumway and I moved out of da shak and moved in with Elder Wiginton, so now we have a whole house with a washer and dryer for just the three of us. It only needs a piano. :) Actually that's one thing I wanted to say. I have been playing the piano for everything! I play at all zone and district meetings, and even for the meetings back in Rancho Cucamonga! I didn't think my piano skills would get used this much. I just wish I had practiced more (mom......you were right *sigh*) At first I was really nervous because they asked me to play hymns that I don't know. But then I decided to just go for it anyway, and if I mess up that's okay. I actually think I've gotten better at sight reading. :)
A. came to church again on Sunday! SWEET! We were all so excited! She is really progressing. We have taught her the first three lessons, and are now teaching her the commandments. She is excited to come to the Ward's Trunk or Treat this weekend! We taught her again today and she is still on to be baptized on Nov 26th! I love watching her change and become better. As people accept the gospel of Jesus Christ they truly change!
We also had another great lesson with R. We taught her about feeling answers to prayers. She's been reading from the Book of Mormon, and we're hoping that she will get an answer that it is true. We set up for a member to give her a ride to church, but it turns out that the member forgot to pick her up! I hope R. will take it well. :) We're going to go visit her tomorrow and teach and invite her again.
I love the gospel so much! I can't imagine how lost I would be without it! Obeying the commandments and keeping our covenants is the only way to have a truly happy life.
Sincerely,
Elder Petrie
